The process to produce a precursor for a critical pharmaceutical compound was designed to fit modular skids to speed up process development. The three modular skids used for the process included a reaction skid, crystallization skid, and a filtration/drying skid. The skids were interconnected to support this process and controlled through a common control system. The modular skid design offered flexibility to test and swap out equipment as needed to overcome solids handling challenges. The team demonstrated a 72-hour campaign to produce 14 kgs of the desired product with >99% purity.
