A company had tested individual steps of a conceptual process for regenerating and re-using components of a used polymer product. To justify further development of the potential process, an initial evaluation of its potential economic value was needed. AVN prepared more detailed designs for the process at two commercial scales, specifying equipment to be used for different modes of operation. Aspen Plus process simulation software was used to assist in estimates of equipment sizing, process throughput, heat and material balances, stream compositions, and utility needs. Equipment costs and process economics were developed for each case of interest and provided to the customer.
