Energy Data eXchange (EDX)

The Energy Data eXchange (EDX) is a cloud hosted web application that supports internal coordination and collaboration as well as timely tech transfer of data-driven products across NETL’s research portfolios. EDX coordinates historical and current data and information from a wide variety of sources to facilitate access to research that crosscuts multiple NETL projects/programs. EDX provides external access to technical products and data published by NETL-affiliated research teams. NETL-affiliated researchers can use EDX’s Collaborative Workspaces to coordinate and share work with a variety of organizations and institutions in a secure environment. Read More

Energy Data eXchange Spatial

The Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory’s EDXS platform consists of an ArcGIS Enterprise environment that is deployed on AWS (HA). The flagship release of EDXS was composed of both “out of the box” landing pages and 30 online web mapping applications (JS/HTML/CSS) created by the AVN Corporation geospatial team. We worked very closely with the cloud system architects to ensure proper handling of both management and visualization of Big Data (geospatial). The platform, formerly known as Geocube, has since expanded increasing collaborative efforts between Department of Energy data scientists and our AVN geospatial team. Read More

SmartSearch

SmartSearch is a tool to automate data discovery. It assists users by analyzing the content that they like and automating the process to discover more data like it. SmartSearch allows users to execute machine learning and natural language processing models and pipelines. SmartSearch provides intuitive web GUI tools for [interacting, searching, querying, visualizing, analyzing] data discovered by SmartSearch so that users can get more insights from data. SmartSearch is a fully featured cloud native application that integrates web parsing, archive extraction, document/file parsing for many common formats (documents, images, etc), geospatial parsing, and a robust API to support downloading of all data generated by the system. The web application component of SmartSearch includes role based security, ingestion of user provided seed data, ML/NLP powered automated search term extraction and editing, search engine interface (Bing, more coming such as EDX, OSTI, etc), automatic recursive link extraction and parsing based on SmartSearch recommendation metrics, link & API key management, full text search, ML/NLP model selection for various stages, user driven topic modeling, discovery review, and downloading of results.

National Risk Assessment Partnership (NRAP) Toolset

This project won an R&D 100 award. As one of the highest honors in the world of Research and Development, the prestige that comes along with winning or being a finalist for an R&D 100 award speaks for itself. AVN Corp’s responsibility included the development of a common user interface for 10+ tools written in a variety of languages (python, Fortran, C#, Java, Pearl, GoldSim, etc.)

IV Bag Flaw Detection Web Application

The IV Bag Flaw Detection Web Application was designed to visualize and analyze data collected from specialized camera equipment. The application displays flaw points and generates heatmaps based on data stored in a centralized database. By analyzing this data, the application identifies common flaw locations on IV port tubes and the bags themselves.

National Well Database and User Interface

AVN Corporation is working alongside data scientists to develop a national well database, which is the first of its kind. Currently well data is dispersed across numerous websites online, with some organizations with varying levels of accuracy and quality data. Well data collected from data scientists is ingested into an Aurora Database (AWS Cloud) after data has been formally vetted. Our ability to work with a wide range of folks allows us to be agile and innovative by collaborating with others. This complex database is comprised of many different tables that work together to house data of about 4 million wells (and counting!) in 4 different states (and counting!). At project completion, there will be a comprehensive, centralized database that can be accessed by the public. To visualize and interpret this geospatial Big Data in a geographical manner, a User Interface is currently in development. During this development, the front and backend programmers work closely together to optimize data fetch and render. The UI (BETA) is anticipated to be released by the end of the year (2024). Its focus is highlighting Marginal Wells and their relevant attributes for end users.

CarbonSAFE

The AVN AST team engineered a streamlined web application for data collection, incorporating role-based authentication to safeguard data access and facilitate team collaboration. To complement the custom data collection application, a suite of visualization dashboards was developed to offer contextual insights into the collected data. These dashboards empower decision-makers and project managers to analyze results and monitor the progress of federally funded projects.

CONNECT Toolkit UI

The AVN AST geospatial team developed a user interface for the Carbon Management CONNECT Toolkit using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The interface leverages geospatial data from ArcGIS Enterprise, incorporating the ESRI JavaScript SDK and Calcite framework as its foundation. To accommodate high customization requirements, additional libraries have been integrated. AVN's effective communication and innovative approach have enabled the team to successfully fulfill the diverse needs of stakeholders.
